Deccan Odyssey History
Deccan odyssey Luxury Train happens to be the joint venture of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation and the Indian Railways. The latest venture, this luxury train in India offers the best of services and ultimate comfort and luxury, when it comes to serving its guests. A MOU was signed for the Deccan Odyssey, in the month of February, 2001, between the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation or MTDC and the Railway Ministry. After spending several months in the construction of this Indian Luxury Train, Deccan Odyssey completed the trials in the year 2003, after which, on 16th of January, 2004, the train started its magical journey from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in Mumbai.
Deccan Odyssey Coaches and Facilities
Come let’s have a look at the interiors of Deccan Odyssey, a luxury train of ultimate splendor, on which you are just about to start your travel experience of a life time! This newest luxury train in India is replete with beautifully adorned and well-maintained twenty one luxury coaches. On your way to a 7 day sojourn, this blue Limousine comes with an assortment of other luxuries and services. Among the 21 luxury coaches, 13 deluxe saloons, which are meant for the passengers, are equipped with several luxurious features such as attached toilets, shower, hot and cold water, carpeting, intercom, channel music, CD/MP3 player etc . Out of the 13 coaches, there are eleven passenger cars with four double bedded chambers, while the remaining two coaches are luxurious presidential suite cars, having two coups each. Each of the coach has a lounge attached to it, where you can have a look at the countryside or simply relax. Mouth watering delicacies are served by the two restaurants. A conference car that also serves the purpose of a dance floor is also there. The business or conference center is equipped with DVD players, satellite communication, printer and fax, television sets, internet connectivity and other conference facilities. The Spa Car is the surprising element about this Indian luxury train. Apart from these a bar car catering to the drinking needs of the guests, generator cars, luggage stores and a staff car can also be found within the Deccan Odyssey. Amenities such as mobile phones, cyber cafe, sauna bath, TV and DVD, 6-channel music, and massage-cum-beauty parlor, Ayurvedic Massage center, Gymnasium, non-smoking and smoking suite cars, Library, Money exchange facilities, credit cards, doctor on call are some of the facilities that can be availed by the passengers.

Wednesday – Day 01 – Mumbai
You unforgettable journey on Deccan Odyssey commences at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai on Wednesday evening at about 16.40 hrs. As you board the train, you are offered tea, followed by dinner.
Thursday – Day 02 – Ratangiri
On Thursday morning, the train reaches Bhoke Rilway station. After your breakfast there and then head towards Rai Jetty by an air-conditioned bus. While at Rai Jetty, definitely go for a boat ride from Rai jetty to the Jaigad Fort. Next you head by road, for Ganapatipule. Explore the finest beach here apart from the Konkan coast. Take a bus ride to the Ratnagiri town and visit the Ratnadurg Fort, Ratnagiri Bazaar and Lokmanya Tilak Smarak. Then arrive at the Ratnigiri Railway Station, board the Deccan Odyssey, have your dinner and go off to sleep to wake up for yet another memorable day!
Friday – Day 03 – Sindhudurg
On Friday morning, you would reach Sindhudurg Nagari Railway Station. From there you depart on a luxury bus you for Malvan Jetty. Here you get to see the Sindhudurg Sea Fort in a boat. Then have your lunch along with loads of fun at the Tarkali Beach Resort. Go for a boat cruise from Tarkarli Creek to Kalsa Jetty.
Next you head for Sawantwadi by bus. Go for a shopping spree at ‘ Shilpagrama’ crafts village. Now, its time for you to come back to Sawantwadi Railway Station, to board Deccan Odyssey. Enjoy your dinner and wait for the next day to make its presence!
Saturday – Day 04 – Goa
Karmali Railway Station is your first destination on Saturday morning. Goa is welcoming you with open warms. Take a bus from the Karmali Railway Station and immediately head towards the mesmerizing land of Old Goa. Visit Se Cathedral Church, Basilica of Born Jesus Church and the Church of St. Francis of Assissi. Reach Panjim next. Enjoy your lunch at the Fort Aguada Beach Resort, after which arrive at Dona Paula, a small, tranquil beach with palm fringes and casuarinas. Stopover at the Latin quarters in Panjim, the Fontanhas. Come down to Madgaon railway station, to board the Deccan Odyssey.
Sunday – Day 05 – Pune City
Pune is the next interesting location waiting for you, on Sunday Morning! Watch out for the Kelkar Museum that is home to varied range of artifacts dating back to 17th – 19th centuries. You will also get to see the very popular Osho Asharam, a center for spiritual development and meditation. Have a gala lunch at the Hotel Le Meridian. Next, visit the Tribal Museum that has a collection of over 1980 precious and unique items, all associated with the lives of the tribal people. Drive through Synagouge and go to Aga Khan Palace. It is a museum that is dedicated to the famous Gandhi family. Board the Deccan Odyssey from the Pune Railway Station in the evening.
Monday – Day 06 – Aurangabad
On the 6th day of your magical luxury tour, reach Aurangabad. Take a luxury bus and go down to Daulatabad Fort, followed by the Ellora caves, which is devoted to Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. It has also received the status of a World Heritage site. Have your lunch at the Hotel Taj and head towards the Shivaji Museum. It houses antiques and weapons belonging to the great Maratha Reign. Other major tourist destinations include Bibi Ka Maqbara and the Aurangabad Caves No. 7 and 8. In the late evening, board onto Deccasn Odyssey from the Aurangabad railway station.
Tuesday – Day 07 – Ajanta Caves & Nashik
On the seventh day morning, you reach at Jalgaon railway station. From here take a bus to have a look at the famous Buddhist caves of Ajanta, yet another World Heritage Site. Finest sculptures and paintings during the 2nd – 7th centuary A.D. are the main attractions of the caves. Next from the Bhusawal railway station, take a train to arrive at Nashik. There you get the opportunity to visit the Sula Winery Yard and Panchawati Ghat. In the night take on the Deccan Odyssey from the Nashik railway station. Enjoy your farewell dinner as the luxury train is on its way back to Mumbai.
Wednesday – Day 08 – Mumbai
